RESTORES COUNSELING SCHOOL WINTER 2025

JANUARY 24 - APRIL 26

YWAM RCS (Restores Counseling* School) is a 13-week (12 weeks of lecture, 1 week debrief/graduation) holistic recovery school that illuminates the broken inner self caused by sin and wounds. Through God's grace, truth, and biblical counseling techniques, RCS helps individuals mature into a healthy self and restore their original design created by God. Through times of deep worship, interactive lectures, self-reflection, Spirit-led prayer, and small group sharing, Christ’s disciples who experience recovery are trained to become channels of blessing, obeying the call to disciple other wounded souls.

RCS aims to help students:

  • Deeply experience God to restore their true identity

  • Enjoy intimate community to restore mature relationships in all areas of life

  • Recover the call of God to live as ministers of recovery in their appointed places

Vision Statement
We hope that through a life of self-reflection with an attitude of gratitude, joyful relationships with oneself and family, and resting in peace within God, the joy of the Lord will overflow in family and personal lives, leading to healing from wounds and freedom from addiction.

Mission Statement
By experiencing the joy of the Lord, we fill our capacity for joy and use that strength to handle pain. Furthermore, through spiritual recovery in Christ, He transforms individuals and families, and restores broken relationships.

*To clarify, while the word "counseling" is in the school name, this school is not meant to train individuals to become counselors. Instead, many of our lecturers are Christian counselors and therapists, and they speak on topics that allow us to take a closer look into ourselves and grow in self awareness — in the presence of Our Creator, in light of Scripture, with the counsel of the Holy Spirit, and encouragement of Christian community. As John Calvin notes in “Institutes of the Christian Religion,” "the knowledge of God and of ourselves" are intertwined together and key to “true and sound wisdom.” It is our prayer that as students learn more about themselves in the way God created them, they will seek and know Him even more, and make Him known in the context of their daily lives.

Also, YWAM RCS is not a substitute or replacement to professional therapy or counseling; in fact, it may very well be possible that as a result of this school, people may discover they may need to engage in professional therapy/counseling.  In these situations, we can provide referrals.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS - a taste of the topics we will be exploring together

  • IMMANUEL JOURNALING - IJ (week 3): The Immanuel Journaling process was published as a book titled Joyful Journey: Listening to Immanuel in 2015. This work has helped countless individuals experience the love of God by restoring peace through seeing and living in the reality of God as their Original Parent and Divine Therapist.

CODEPENDENCY (wk 4):  We’ll talk about the fear-based roots of codependency and why grace is essential to developing healthy, secure connections with God and others.

  • SHARE IMMANUEL (wk 5):  We’ll continue to talk about a grace-based lifestyle and crucial foundations for the Share Immanuel exercise. We will practice a modified, simple Share Immanuel Exercise. In wks 4 & 5, we’ll learn and practice activities that help us share grace and prepare to connect with God and each other in joy.

  • EMBRACING YOUR INNER CHILD: A Creative Journey of Healing in God's love (wk 6): The concept of the "inner child" aligns with the understanding that every person carries within them the emotions, memories, and experiences of their early life. This inner child often reflects both the joy and the pain of our formative years, and how we relate to it can significantly shape our emotional and spiritual well-being as adults. The inner child is not only a part of our personal history but also a reflection of God’s original creation.

In this doll-making workshop, we will explore the expression of our inner child, encouraging us to tenderly embrace and care for the emotional parts of ourselves that may have been hurt, neglected, or forgotten. Through the creative process of making dolls, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their childhood experiences and view them through the lens of God’s redemptive work. This experience allows for healing, restoration, and the affirmation of God’s love, inviting the inner child to be nurtured and healed by His grace.

  • FAMILY SYSTEMS/GENOGRAM (wk 7): This seminar focuses on understanding family dynamics through the lens of family systems theory, exploring how family dynamics shape individual behavior and relationships. It will focus on how family members influence each other, often without realizing it, and explore common patterns or roles within families. Participants will learn to create genograms, visual tools that map out family relationships, patterns, and histories across multiple generations. The seminar would emphasize the importance of healthy boundaries and offer some practical tools for improving communication and resolving conflicts.

  • FORGIVENESS (wk 8): Forgiveness is one of the greatest ways to bless yourself. Too many people put themselves in a prison by not forgiving oneself and others. Experience new freedom, peace and joy through this week’s teaching.

  • GRIEVING THE SEASONS (wk 9):  In this talk we examine the Biblical approach to dealing with loss and disappointment. A Biblical Theology of Lament is essential for long term spiritual formation and health.

  • EMOTIONAL HEALING (wk 9):  In this talk we examine a Biblical Theology for Inner Healing and replacing lies with the truth of God.

  • FAMILY MINISTRY (wk 10):  Our theme will be Building Strong Families. Students will discover the four pillars necessary to create unity in families and will explore the six characteristics of healthy families. Family ministry is built upon the foundation of strong and godly families.

  • LIFE MODEL - The Brain & My Transformation (wk 11): Jesus left us a simple command to love the Lord, love others as we love ourselves, and He threw in an extra “love your enemies” as well. With the many disruptions in the Church, we have to ask, "How is this working out for us practically?" Since we are the first generation to understand how the brain functions, let's take time to look at how the brain affects us spiritually and emotionally. Let's learn simple brain-based Biblical concepts and practices that affect our maturity and capacity for life, resulting in life-changing transformations.

  • DESTINY BY DESIGN (wk 12):  This is a unique study that helps people see that all of us were designed with a call of God on our lives. We can discover our unique design and calling by looking at:

Dreams - our passions, interests and desires; the things that make us come alive!

Experiences - how God can use ALL our experiences for His purposes

    Soulprint - Our unique personality

Identity - understanding our true identity in Christ

Gifts - natural gifts, motivational gifts and Spiritual gifts

Network - how to find our dream by networking with others
